The incidents of bias and hate crimes that are occurring in cities across our country are troubling and distressing for all of us to see. Although the recent violent incidents have not occurred in our community, they do have an impact on our students and staff who are repeatedly exposed to graphic imagery on both the news and social media.

Our teachers and staff members work diligently at creating a safe space and supporting our students; however, if your child is struggling to process any of the recent events, please reach out to your child’s school counselor. As parents, discussing these events with our children can be difficult; we have compiled resources to help guide your conversations.

Here at HVRSD, equity and inclusion have become a driving force that is resulting in curriculum changes and the development of a more inclusive school climate. The Hopewell Valley community stands firmly with our Asian American community and all of those who are the recipient of bias and hate crimes. We will not tolerate incidents of bias or hate in our school community and we sincerely hope the work we are doing with our students and staff will help prevent future events locally and beyond.

These are trying times for all of us.  Our school community will continue to support our students and families and staff through these difficult times and we will continue to foster conversations that engage in critical discovery and exploration.
