Over the past several hours, many of us followed the news regarding the protests and unsettling events taking place in our Nation’s capital.   These unprecedented events are difficult to view and will undoubtedly generate feelings of worry and confusion for many.  These emotions may be particularly challenging for our students to understand and to manage.

In times like these, school district officials and staff play an important role. We provide students and staff members with the opportunity to process these events, offer consolation, and lead the way for positive change to occur. We recognize that the unrest in our country, coupled with the challenges of COVID-19, has left many of our students feeling lost.  In the absence of in-person schooling, when appropriate, staff will assist students to process the recent events during their virtual learning sessions and counselors are available for any student who requires support.  We have provided resources for staff and parents to help facilitate these conversations.

These are trying times for all of us. As always, and particularly when faced with adversity, you have my commitment that HVRSD will do everything we can to support our students and staff.
